Swiss singer and songwriter Bastian Baker visits Nicolas G. Hayek Center in Tokyo

On Thursday afternoon, OMEGA brand ambassador Bastian Baker, one of Switzerland's most dynamic and successful performers, visited the Nicolas G. Hayek Center (NGHC) in Tokyo’s Ginza district, a prestigious area distinguished by the flagship boutiques of well-known luxury brands. Bastian’s first and second albums, Tomorrow May Not Be Better and Too Old To Die Young, both went platinum and in the space of three years, he has received five Swiss Music Awards and two Prix Walo.

Christophe Savioz, President and Representative Director of Swatch Group Japan K.K./OMEGA Brand Manager, welcomed the talented Swiss music star who was recognized as the “Best Swiss Act” at the last MTV Europe Music Awards. Mr. Savioz guided Bastian through the NGHC which has been acclaimed internationally for its unique design by leading Japanese architect Shigeru Ban.

Bastian then visited the OMEGA Boutique GINZA on the 2nd floor. The staff welcomed him warmly, asking him about the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, where he performed for a group of invited guests at the brand’s pop-up activity hub in the Olympic Park.

Bastian enjoyed watchmaking in the Customer Service area, working on tiny components in watch movements with purpose-built precision tools.

He talked about his role as an OMEGA ambassador saying, “I think it’s great, I’m really happy with this partnership with OMEGA. We do great job together. It’s a great pleasure for me to play for them every now and then.” He was wearing a Speedmaster 'Dark Side of the Moon' and said, “Being Swiss, watches are always important and wearing this 'Dark Side of the Moon' makes it even more special."

Afterwards, he was interviewed by members of media at the NGHC. Asked about his impression of Tokyo, he said, “I think the people are lovely; I think the culture is amazing. Every time I have lunch and dinner, I am amazed how healthy food can be and how good it is. My favorite Japanese food is shabu shabu (thin slices of beef parboiled in hot soup). This is my second time here and I’m already looking forward to coming back in November because we have a tour. For me, that's one of the coolest bits of news this year."
