OMEGA ready and set for PyeongChang 2018
With a special visit from the President of the Swiss Confederation
For the 28th time in its history, OMEGA is perfectly poised for its role as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games. As the winter athletes at PyeongChang 2018 make their final preparations, the Swiss brand is ready to serve them with its renowned expertise and technology.
To give one last inspection of the equipment in place, OMEGA welcomed a special visit from Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation. His guided insight into the world of timekeeping included a close-up view of the impressive Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre, where OMEGA will not only provide precise results, but also track each athlete’s performance through new motion sensor technology.
Of course, Ski Jumping is just one of the 15 sports, including 102 events, that OMEGA will time for these Olympic Winter Games. It’s the first time that the event has surpassed 100 medal events, and so OMEGA will have more work to do than ever before, including its first Olympic Games experience in new events such as Big Air Snowboarding.
For this huge undertaking, the brand has travelled to PyeongChang with 230 tonnes of equipment and 300 timekeepers who will be supported by 350 trained volunteers. Thankfully, OMEGA is backed by its 86-year experience in this role and everything and everybody is now in position. It’s time to let the Games begin.
