Baselworld 2013: Zoom on the new models of Omega

Omega Seamaster Bullhead

This watch should evoke some memories to collectors. Indeed, Omega releases a new version of this 70’s model, which owes its name to the fans. The special design of this timepiece has been rejuvenated without being denatured, the shape of the case and chronograph pushers at 12 hours still reminiscent of a bison's head. As notable improvements, the movement is obviously taking advantage of recent Omega technical advances such as the co-axial system while three variations of dials are proposed: black, white and silver. Pleasure being in the details, the brand has also designed a system that guarantees an unchanging positioning of the logo on the crown.

Omega Speedmaster ‘57

A second wink to the history of the brand, the chronograph Speedmaster ’57 resumes the aesthetic codes of its illustrious model. As such a strong symmetry emanates from the whole, with the chronograph counters located at 3 and 9 o’clock, its date aperture at 6 o’clock and also its straight horns from the case to the strap. But it is notably the first generation hands and the glass decorated with a tachometric scale that reinforces this old-timer sensation without looking old. Equipped with the Omega Co-axial 9300/9301 calibre, this column wheel chronograph has a silicon balance spring. In order to meet all wishes, Omega decline this model in many case materials, from the sober and historic stainless steel to the most visible yellow gold passing through the very lightweight titanium.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 15000 Gauss

Thanks to silicon, Omega already prevented its balance from the effects of normal exposure to magnetic fields. Nonetheless, the brand has designed this watch to withstand 15'000 Gauss. To meet this challenge Omega has parted with the usual method of protecting the movement in a soft iron cage. Indeed, from 1000 Gauss, magnetism can still crosses the cage. It is for this reason that Omega has concentrated on the movement, involving anti-magnetic components whose purpose is to integrate the future movements of the brand. The result is this seductive Seamaster whose second hand reuses the colour codes of the electrical signals, while the watch no more cares for any magnetic fields tolerated by humans. From an aesthetic point of view, the black dial with its hour’s lap and central minutes in black and white provides a nice contrast with the index of the seconds, strengthening readability. 41.5 mm in diameter, this timepiece is water resistant to 15 ATM.

Omega Speedmaster 'The Dark side of the Moon'

A stealth watch on your wrist. These words can sum up the impression emerging from this black ceramic Speedmaster, whose 44.25 mm case has been polished and satin finished. Despite its large size, it is worn comfortably on the arm to be both discreet and radiant when a ray of light touches it. The dial is no slouch as it is in black ceramic composed of zirconium oxide. Its mat aspect allows to bring out the18 carat white gold indexes and to provide optimum legibility with Super-LumiNova coated needles. The aesthetic aspect should not make us forget its main purpose, since this chronograph displays its indications through a large central hand for the seconds and an hours and minutes counter at 3 hours. A small seconds counter faces 9 hours while a date aperture is found at 6 o'clock. Equipped with the Omega co-axial 9300 calibre with a silicon balance spring, this chronograph is decorated with a tachometer on the bezel and enjoys a comprehensive 4 year warranty.
